This method has been tested on Keynote 6.6.2 (latest version on macOS El Capitan) so you need: a mac; Keynote installed; Open a blank document. When I open Keynote, I tend to avoid using templates. I like to start with a blank page. So what I've done is simply make myself a blank template. To do so: Open Keynote and select the white template.

- Now, launch the Mac App Store, go to the El Capitan page or Purchased tab and download OS X El Capitan from there. MAS will now download it from the local server at a high speed. Once downloaded, you may proceed with the installation by clicking on Continue when the setup launches.

- Discovered an alarming bug (or is it a 'feature'?) in the latest version of Keynote. Presentations created in V8.2 on High Sierra will still open in Keynote 6.6 on El Cap, but when resaved in 6.6 on El Cap they cannot then be opened again. Same happens to Pages files. Is this a bug or a deliberate move from Apple because El Cap is no longer.

Check compatibility
If a macOS installer can't be used on your Mac, the installer will let you know. For example, it may say that it's too old to be opened on this version of macOS, or that your Mac doesn't have enough free storage space for the installation.
To confirm compatibility before downloading, check the minimum requirements for macOS Catalina, Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan or Yosemite. You can also find compatibility information on the product-ID page for MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, MacBook, iMac, Mac mini or Mac Pro.
Make a backup

Download macOS
It takes time to download and install macOS, so make sure you're plugged into AC power and have a reliable Internet connection.
Safari uses these links to find the old installers in the App Store. After being downloaded from the App Store, the installer opens automatically.

Safari downloads the following older installers as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg. Open the disk image, then open the .pkg installer inside the disk image. It installs an app named Install [Version Name]. Open that app from your Applications folder to start installing the operating system.

Install macOS
Follow the onscreen instructions in the installer. It may be easiest to start the installation in the evening so that it can be completed overnight, if needed.
If the installer asks for permission to install a helper tool, enter the administrator name and password that you use to log in to your Mac, then click Add Helper.

Please allow the installation to finish without putting your Mac to sleep or closing its lid. Your Mac may restart, show a progress bar or show a blank screen several times while macOS and related firmware updates are being installed.

You may also be able to use macOS Recovery to reinstall the macOS you're using now, upgrade to the latest compatible macOS or install the macOS that came with your Mac.
Office for Mac isn’t doing so hot on El Capitan, it seems. (I personally haven’t had many problems, but I personally don’t use Office that much, so your mileage may vary.) Luckily, Apple pushed out updates for all three of its iWork applications for the Mac on Thursday. What excellent timing!
Pages
Pages 5.6 supports El Capitan’s new Split View feature. It can open documents from both Pages ’08 and ’06 (which doesn’t seem like a feature to crow about, to be honest, but this was a big problem up until now).
Force-clicking images with a Force Touch trackpad will result in haptic feedback while you’re editing. The font menu has a handy Recently Used section. The Media Browser supports the album structure in Photos, including collections, moments, favorites, and shared albums. There are even some new Apple-designed templates, including ePub, Kids Certificate, Classic Certificate, and School Newsletter.

Numbers
Numbers 3.6 can open spreadsheets created by Numbers ’08. It also supports Split View in El Capitan, and force-clicking images with the Force Touch trackpad. More AppleScript options are included for exporting files to PDF and Excel format, and Apple says the Excel export is improved, as is the compatibility for Excel charts, text overflows, and non-rectangular masks.
VoiceOver support is mentioned across the whole iWork suite—in Numbers, Apple says you can add and review comments with VoiceOver, and even use it to edit chart data and elements. (In Pages, you can use VoiceOver to add and review comments, and track changes. In Keynote, VoiceOver can even read the presenter notes during your slideshows.)

Keynote
Apple’s answer to PowerPoint, Keynote 6.6 has a new build animation called Line Draw as well as new themes called Modern Type, Exhibition, and Drafting. Apple says it’s improved the PowerPoint export, as well as compatibility for PowerPoint charts, text overflows, non-rectangular masks, animation mapping, and theme import/export.
Many of the additions mentioned above apply to Keynote too, like support for the Force Touch trackpad, easy access to recently used fonts, the overhauled Media Browser, and support for Split View in El Capitan. Keynote 6.6 can open files from Keynote ’08 and ’06.
